For many people who work as office clerks, secretary, or in jobs that require frequent typing as well as frequent movement of the wrist, it is sometime hard to advice them as to how they can avoid signs of carpal tunnel when typing. For some, avoiding the problem is a tough ask especially if heredity and other illnesses such as thyroid disease, diabetes, and rheumatoid arthritis is already a part of their life.
That said, the truth of the matter is, it should be relatively easy for anyone to avoid these signs of carpal tunnel syndrome if they arm themselves with as much information as possible. In the rest of this article, you will be taken through steps necessary to help you through avoiding these issues.
Secretary Desks
First things first, in order to avoid carpal tunnel syndrome occurring from simple tasks such as typing, you want to make sure your working environment is safe. In this case, you want to focus more on ensuring that your computer desk is set up such that it puts as less a strain on your wrist as possible. This can be achieved by setting up your desk such that your wrist and lower arm rest on a 90 degree angle to your upper arm each time you sit down to type.
Next, when you sit, you want to make sure you maintain a straight but relaxed sitting position. Also, make sure your knees are bent at a comfortable 90-degree angle with the feet on the floor. This will ensure you maintain the step mentioned earlier as well as reduce the strain on your back when typing. You should also set up your pad and mouse such that you can reach it without compromising your sitting position.
Despite many people manage to maintain the above steps on a regular basis, some still end up typing in an awkward position. If you notice yourself doing the same, the best thing to do would be to stand up, stretch and readjust your sitting position and environment. Do these until you have mastered it and can maintain the best posture when typing without having to monitor yourself.
If you can do the above, you should be able to easily avoid carpal tunnel syndrome regardless of how often you type. That said, do bear in mind that repetitive strain syndrome is also another disorder that could be picked up alongside carpal tunnel syndrome due to repetitive activities. Making sure of all the above when you use your computer should help you avoiding either or both of the disorders.
